Power of choice determines the outcome and destiny.

Rev. P Tuchyna

Joshua 24:15;

Man is not only biologically made of the earth. But he is human made in the image of God.

God created us from the dust of the earth, and we bear the image of the earth. From earth came our bodies and our bodies will return to earth.

But our spirit life came direct from God, and it bears His image.

When our bodies return to the earth, our spirits will return to God.

Being in the image of God, we possess His characteristics / intellect (the capacity for understanding), moral consciousness, choice, creativity, imagination and others.

Our ability to think relatively, to respond morally, and to communicate places man in a unique role of all creation.

God created man with ability to choose. And with this ability to choose, He gave man the responsibility of his choices.

Right choices.

We would not be human if we would not have the power of choice. Life would be more simple (animals instinct).

Unimportant decisions: car, type of pie, ice cream, style of shoes even type of work.

Important decisions: choice that will determine our eternal destiny.

God gave us choice and responsibility to choose the lifestyle that will determine our ultimate salvation or damnation. (You are making decision regarding your eternity).

To arrive at the right direction requires right choices. We cannot make wrong choice concerning our eternal destination and expect to end up in heaven.

As we make right choices, we start enjoying the result of it in blessings, joy, happiness and God’s protection. Matt 6:33, Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven and his righteousness and everything else shall be added unto you.

Principle of sowing and reaping.

Many people wonder why things of life do not work out for them. They complain about results and outcomes without ever considering causes.

Wrong choices cannot produce right results.

Adam and Eva chose to eat the forbidden fruit and were expelled from the garden.

Cain chose to kill Abel and became a fugitive. Jezebel chose to have Naboth killed and she was killed and then eaten by dogs. Judas chose to betray the Lord and committed suicide when conscience convicted him.

Character and Choice

Are our choices a result of what we are, (our character), or is our character a result of our choices?

As the kind of person we are results in certain choices, our choices definitely determine the kind of person we will be.

Good character results in good choices. What chance then has a faulty character in making good choice?

Although the choice is influenced by the character, man with awareness and will, can overrule the influence of his subconscious choice.

It is more correct to say that choices make character. Whatever choices we make determine what we will be.

Thankfully, we all have the ability and right to change. If we are faulty in our character, we do not have to stay that way.

In order to change your character you need to change the wrong choices your are making.

Risk of choice.

To do nothing is in itself a choice. Many of our choices have eternal ramifications, and once we choose we set a direction that is difficult to change.

Buying the wrong car or a house can affect our finances for several years but finally we would recover.

The choice of marriage has more serious consequences than the purchase of a car.

Yet marriage is for this life only, but salvation reaches into eternity – for ever and ever.

To choose God has implication for the rest of eternity, likewise not to choose God has an implication also for the rest of eternity in unspeakable suffering.

To choose means to commit.

Some people view commitment as a burden. The commitment means that you will reach your destiny.

Pilot not committed to a flight plan shall miss his destiny. Nothing significant is achieved without commitment.

Eternal Salvation is a choice.

If a person refuses to make up a mind, he is choosing not to be saved it means he will be lost. Revelation 20:14-15.

To die of poisoning within easy reach of the antidote by not taking it is tragic. To be eternally lost and suffer unspeakable pain by refusing God is the worst of all tragedies for it will be irreversible when eternity starts.

Some choices that seem bad to some people at the moment later prove to be the best.

The godly choices we make as Christians often appear to the world and unsaved people to be foolish for they do not understand anything else beyond the world’s system.

Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt:

Hebrews 11:26.

Wrong choices are usually made when consideration is given only to the present.

Prayer and choice

No man is wise enough to make right choice every time. Therefore the importance of prayer and studying the Word of God regarding that matter in making decision is vital.

God can and He wants to help us with all our choices. Psalm 32:8. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way, which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

The Bible warns us of making decisions based on the worldly, human wisdom: There is a way, which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death Proverbs 14:12.

Procrastination is a great enemy. Joshua declared: “Choose ye this day whom ye will serve”,  Joshua 24:15.

I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live, Deuteronomy 30:19 .
