Our significance in God’s eyes
Rev. Peter Tuchyna
Ephesians 1:3 ; Blessed be the God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who hath blessed us
with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.
Verse 5 - having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according
to the good pleasure of his will.
Verse 12 - that we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
Ephesians 2:4 ; God hath quickened us together with Christ (by grace ye are saved)
Verse 6- and hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus
Verse 10- for we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before
ordained that we should walk in them.
(Please read on in Ephesians 1 and Ephesians 2).
When we honestly and openly search ourselves, a relatively few of us would declare that we experience the
contentment and assurance of God’s presence that God desired for each of us to have.
We find ourselves searching to satisfy unexplained longing. There is subconscious desire within us for
acceptance by others and this would place pressure upon us to “perform” for the praise of others.
But those who live only for the attention and acceptance of other people are never satisfied.
Our desire to be loved, accepted and respected by others is a sign of much more deeper need.
It is a need of self – worth. There is often unrecognised need within us to have a healthy respect for
ourselves.
Knowing our failures, shortcomings and inability to fulfil our own expectation or expectation of others we
may find ourselves to be ridden by constant guilt. God knew before the foundation of this earth and before
he created man and woman that man will fall and therefore he prepared more than for a rescue of the fallen
mankind.
God prepared more than just reconciliation of man to Himself.
God prepared ”newness’” of life for man based upon His nature given to us through the presence of
his Holy Spirit. So it is the Holy Spirit, which leads to a transformation of our lives and our nature rather
than our own strength, ability or talents.
The only solution for you as a child of God is to accept God’s evaluation of your life and to allow him to
perform a change to your fallen nature.
In Genesis 1-2 God is exposing before us our true significance and worth. We were created in God’s
image for a very specific purpose. It is, to honour God as a special creation of God. To search for his will
and to glorify God by applying of His will in our lives.
The Bible is teaching us that we have an enemy who wants to destroy our faith and relationship with God
and therefore it is imperative to put on the whole armour of God so that we can be equipped for spiritual
battle.
In spite of the very clear message of God, there seems to be many unsuspecting believers not taking notice
or not understanding that their lives are part of a spiritual battle and that Jesus Christ has already won the
war.
They are surprised and confused by difficulties they are experiencing, refusing to understand and to accept
that the Christian life is a battlefield.
The Lord Jesus Christ has already won the war, but whether or not an individual believer is victorious
with Jesus Christ is not dependable upon our skill to avoid the spiritual war but upon our willingness to
apply God’s specific solution to those problems and challenges.
Accepting and understanding of God’s truth is the first step to spiritual victory.
Distorted self-perception results in hopelessness. But God prepared an abundant and meaningful life for us.
Our value is not dependent on our ability to earn and secure acceptance of people but rather it is in
the source of God’s love and his acceptance.
The first created man lived in an intimate fellowship with God. He was secure and free. From the entire
creation no creature could be compared to the created man. Adam was a magnificent creation, he was a
complete and perfect image of God, designed to reign over all the earth ( Gen 1:26-28 ).
Adam’s purpose was to reflect the glory of God. Through man God desired to demonstrate his holiness
( Psalm 99:3-5 ); love and patience ( 1 Cor 13:4 ); wisdom ( James 3:13,17 ); forgiveness (Heb 10:17 );
faithfulness (Psalm 89:1,2 Psalm 89:5,8 ); and grace ( Psalm 111:4 ).
Man allowed himself to be tempted by the deceit of Satan and gave in. Adam was given authority over the
earth. By rebelling against God, man lost not only the authority but also his perfection.
By destroying man’s relationship with God, Satan wanted to destroy the glorious plan God has for mankind.
But God did not give up on us. God has brought us out of slavery of sin by his own blood on the cross.
Satan’s rule can be broken and we can reign with Jesus Christ as he intended it for us.
We can be restored to the security and place of significance in God’s economy for which we have been
created.
Every message about the Salvation plan given by God and leading to repentance, water baptism according to
the Bible and the infilling with the Holy Spirit is God’s life giving opportunity to reverse the curse.
We need to accept that God wants his children to bear his image and to rule with him.
One obstacle of faith is when we are unsure of our relationship with God.
We cannot pay for our sins. Jesus has done it for us already. This is his gift to us.
For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a
result of works, that no one should boast ( Eph 2:8-9 ).
You may feel happy and thankful. You may be overwhelmed with the magnitude of God’s love. You may
also declare that you do not feel like this at all.
We need to remember that our feelings are not the basis of truth. God’s Word is our authority. What the
Word of God says is true whether we feel it or not.
The more we understand God’s Word and live by it, the more even our feelings will reflect his character and
love.
Failure to meet our standard or the standard of others in any area can cause us to feel poorly about ourselves.
The opinions others have of us are usually based on our performance.
The Word of God is bringing change into our values.
God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing, chosen you, declared you holy and blameless, adopted you,
redeemed you, forgave you, made known to you the mysteries of His will and sealed you with the Holy Spirit.
It is essential to ask the question yourself. Who am I? Why am I here?
It will lead you to search for the purpose of your life and your significance in the light of the Word of God.
Jesus loves you. He died for you. He purchased you, purged you, he gave you his holiness and righteousness
that you may live a holy and upright life to the glory of his name.
We will continue to share the Word of God exposing the cause, which is robbing you of the many blessings
of God.
